Unboxing/Inspection
Just ordered ball python number 2. He is a cross between banana phantom and pastel Mojave. I bought my first little normal locally so I'm not sure exactly what to expect with having one shipped. I've seen some people just put the bag in their set up and let them come out when they are ready. It seems like I should take him out and look him over. I know to look for mites but can anyone tell me what else I need to inspect for? I will be quarentining him in a seperate room at the other end of the house. I know the trip is already stressful so I want to make him as comfy as possible as quickly as possible and leave him be. Thank you in advance, and meet Falcor! Re: Unboxing/Inspection
Hi,
Did the breeder say what he thought the morph was?
Congrats on quarantining him though as it gives you a great opportunity to observe him.
I normally remove them from the bag/ tub they were sent in and let them get used to their new enclosure.
I reccomend not handling new arrivals until they have three consecutive meals for you - don't be surprised if it takes them a few weeks to eat in a new environment.

I'd look for the same things I'd look for when buying in person: listen to breathing (any whistling, crackling?), observe tongue flick (tips not stuck together, & nothing
abnormal, like sticking only partway out), body symmetry (indentations could be broken ribs, for example, & bulges can be cysts, tumors, infections, an enlarged heart, etc), tail/cloaca (any blood or irritation, or signs of diarrhea; "sausage butt"?), eyes (clear, no stuck eye caps), skin (scars? mites?), overall condition (not starved or dehydrated).
:welcome: Falcor! (You're very handsome but don't go getting conceited...)

Re: Unboxing/Inspection
Thank you both! The breeder had him listed as deep purple passion. One of my favorite movies as a child was The Neverending Story and there was a lovely, fluffy white dragon named Falcor and I saw this little guy and fell in love all over again, hence the name. Thank you Bogertrophis for what all to look and listen for. Many of those things I would have never thought to check for. It took me 44 years to find out that I love snakes so much! They are very calming. Opposite to what I would have thought.

Re: Unboxing/Inspection
Sorry for the misspelling @Bogertophis! And I'll make sure to tell him he's not allowed to get all big headed and conceited! I'll post pics when he settles in! [emoji171][emoji216]
