They use the terms "attack" and "attacked" in the story, Snakes do not attack do they? He probably just startled the snake and it reacted. Please correct me if I'm wrong

Since the incident this weekend, the family has hired a licensed reptile remover to find and "relocate" any snakes found in the property.

I don't like how they put "relocate" in quotes, hope that doesn't mean kill.

I feel really bad for the kid, hope he will make a full recovery and also recover from the trauma of the experience. This is bad news for rattlesnakes as well, they are already very much hated :( I wouldn't blame the family or kid for developing a hatred for rattlesnakes after this experience but it really sucks that the snake will be blamed for this. Like you said the snake was probably startled or there is also the possibility that the child might have antagonized it in some way not knowing any better. I also don't like the way they wrote "relocate." Rattlesnakes are important to the ecosystem and already a threatened species that are senselessly killed in droves every year.

Poor kid! Hopefully, him and the snake a both fine. I really hope this doesn't cause him to hate snakes.

That sounds scary, but I do hope the kid understands that it was nothing personal. I've met quite a few snake killers including one that said "I'm gonna kill all the snakes because one bit my mom" Are you gonna kill all the cats? Because my cat bites me on a regular basis. Okay, getting bitten by a venomous snake is far more dangerous compared to a cat, but my point is that I hope they understand that the rattler had no choice.

Watching the video, the child was bitten when he was behind the mail truck in the middle of the driveway. Just guessing the snake was camouflaged by some weeds
growing in cracks in the concrete, you really have to watch where you walk or put your hands when living in 'snake country'. Kids that young cannot be relied on to have
that much forethought to stay safe, & obviously even their other pets didn't scare the snake away from their driveway. As in other posts, I hope both the kid & the snake
are fine...the kid may have even stepped ON the snake...it wouldn't be the first time. Snakes like rattlesnakes don't attack, they defend themselves because they're too
slow to escape death from predators by trying to flee...this is nothing personal, it's an instinct...especially if some 'giant' steps on their tail. And yes, Gocntry,
baby rattlers often panic & inject all they can when threatened...those that don't often do not survive, whereas mature rattlesnakes are able to withhold venom
(presumably not to waste it on the inedible) when the threat is judged not to warrant the use of venom. That's why some ppl get "dry bites" from rattlers...they aren't out to get us, just trying to survive.
