Rhp question

Hello all!

So I have my new enclosure all set up and I'm doing my dry run, trying to get temps dialed in. It's a pvc enclosure, and I have an RHP for heat. The temperature probe is suspended approximately 2 inches below the RHP. So the thermostat is set at 90, and the ambient temp is reading 90 on the acurite thermometer, however when I take surface temps with my IR thermometer, the top of the hide is registering 88-90, but inside the hide it's only 82-86. Is this okay? Should I bump it up a little? I do have a heat mat i can add if needed. Cool end temp are about 77-80 so all good there

Maybe fiddle with the temps upward a tiny bit, but honestly that all sounds pretty close. Almost exactly what my BP enclosure reads at and the animal temp guns at ~85-86* when in his warm hide. He's been in that enclosure for 4 years with no issues and turns 11yrs this summer.

Thats great. Radiant heat is different than direct heat. It heats Objects. So your snake will go in the hide and heat up from the PVC Hide being 88-90 even though the floor in there will register cooler with the laser.
Also make sure to keep regulating that enclosure for 12hrs before you add a animal. Every time I set up a new enclosure after the environment has regulated I have to adjust the Tstat a little. After 8-12 hours it gets warmer because the PVC and objects are all heated through..

If the top of your hide is 91/92 the hotside is perfect. If the top of the hide on the coolside is 78+ your cool sides perfect. The snakes body will absorb those temps from the object/hide [emoji1360]
Also I hang my probes 1/2 -3/4 down between the panel and substrate to get a more accurate reading of where the snake spends time. That will also raise the temp a couple degrees.

Yeah it was running over night. I'll keep an eye on it today and probably put her in this evening as long as everything remains stable! Thank you for the info. There's definitely a learning curve when switching to RHP after being comfortable with uth lol.

Yes your 100% correct. Ask anyone on this Forum I second guess things all the time hahaha. What I did to end up understanding was to take the snakes Temp after he was in his Hides for extended hours. I was confused as to why the top of the hides were 92/93 but the floor inside the hide was 85/86. I then called BOB at Pro Products and he told me to either take my snakes Temp or put one of my SensorPush thermometers inside the hide for 24 hrs and see what it read. He was right. A object absorbs Radiant heat even though the ambient temp can be less. Also the Paper Substrate I use doesn’t register correctly with a laser. If I leave the paper out of the enclosure then the PVC Floor measures correctly after 6-8 hrs. Ive been through it all and driven myself crazy like several other members hahaha. We are very meticulous when it comes to Husbandry.

Its about what ever works for you. If you like it higher thats fine... with my probes low my Tstat is set to 87 but the floor temp is 91 on the hotside and 81 cool... so you play around and see what works best for your situation. If my probe was higher my Tstat would mach the floor temp like yours. Six of one 1/2 Dozen the other. Same outcome.
