I need advice about thermometer.

Hello everyone. I have Herpstat for my rack and have the probe in contact under the heat tape. My question is what is a good and affordable thermometer to check the hot spots in each tub. I have two cheap amazon infrared thermometer. A Nubee and etekcity. They are CRAP! Not accurate at all. Anyone have an opinion about thermometers and which one to get. I really don’t want to spend $150 on a fluke if I can help it. Thanks for your time.

I use a SensorPush in all my enclosures. I screw it 3” up the wall so it doesnt get pissed on.. thats sends Ambient and Humidity to my Phone screen. Then when ever I need to dial a enclosure in I just set it in the area and leave it for 4 hours monitoring the temp... works like a charm. They are $50 and like I said I have one in every enclosure. I love them.
As far as a Laser, I just use a cheap Lowes one to check a Snakes Body Temp, like you say ive had problems with them for surfaces because ive learned Substrates differ a reading. My Butcher Paper gets false readings in particular. What a surface is made of differs what kind of heat it absorbs and messes up the laser reading.

Do those SensorPush thermometers keep a history or log, even when you don't actively check the temps?

Just curious what method you are using to check your thermometer to say that they are both crap? I test mine on the wall right next to my HVAC thermostat. Those are typically very accurate and my cheap infrared is always spot on. I have two thermostats that are identical and one of them is off by 4 or 5 degrees and the other is spot on. So if you are trusting the readout on your thermostat to be accurate it could be wrong. My hot side thermostat probe shows 94-95 degrees when the surface is at 89-90. The cools side sits on 80 and it stays at 80.

Are you having problems with the phone app? I checked the reviews and seems that lately people are having problems were the sensor doesn't send information to their phones and they need to keep downloading the app. It seems all the bad reviews I saw are from recent months. I don't ask dakski because he has the gateway, so he might be OK.

I test them with ice water and boiling water. Ice water should be right around 32 degrees F. and boiling should be around 212 degrees F.

Those sensor push things are cool but isn’t that more for ambient temps?

They aren't designed to read liquid temps. And you realize boiling water boils ABOVE 212 too right?

Yes, the sensor push are for ambient temps.

I agree with Craig that's not the best test. Hit your wall thermostat at the same distance you would hit the tank floor and they should be within 1F of each other.
