    Female BP
I guess I wasn’t aware that a 2-3 year old female ball python should be around 1500grams and I just weight my girl and she weighed in around 800grams. Although she looks great, I’m kind of freaking out, I don’t know what I’ve done wrong? She eats medium sized rats monthly but I’m thinking I should start feeding her small rats every weekly?

Youre feeding her once a month?

Yes, I guess I thought that was normal for mature females, and because she is still eating live I try to switch her over to frozen every so often and every time I do that it kind of throws off her eating pattern

I wouldn't feed any less frequently than 10-14 days.

Thank you! I always went off the “width of the fattest part of her body” and that was medium rats once a month but I’m definitely going to downsize to smaller , weekly

If she will accept f/t, I would stay with that from now on. Not only is it safer, but I would imagine going back and forth may cause future refusals.

I’ve tried frozen, I’ve tried freshly killed, I’ve tried heating the head of the rat up, everything but she won’t take it, and I try every few months but hopefully one day she will take it

Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you meant you were feeding both live and f/t.

I assure you that your female is healthy, having indeterminate growth these animals can thrive in food shortages and food surpluses. It'll take a few more years until she is ready to breed, but assuming that everything else is on point she should be healthy none the less.

If her size concerns you, then you could start feeding her weekly or bi-weekly.
