To Soon

Iam thinking about building the final adult enclosure for my bp now, but I dont know if its too soon. The cage would be the same dimensions as AP T3. 36"x24"x12". My bp is about 24" atleast. Would this size stress her out to much right now.

The larger enclosure will be ok if you make the proper arrangements. I would put extra hides, an extra water bowl, and some crumbled newspaper for a while......and the snake should feel secure :)

But if you just want two hides and a water bowl as the only contents of the cage....I would wait until it is a bit bigger.

If it were me, I'd wait. I don't move my ball pythons into their adult enclosures until about 12-18 months and/or 700 - 900 grams at least. They will do much better in smaller physical enclosures if at all possible.

Of course, as posted above adjustments can certainly be made if you want to do it now. I'm just posting how I personally have the success that I do working with these animals. There are many ways to keep ball pythons and not really one way that is "better" than any other.

Thanks Adam, I've been looking for numbers on how big they should be before you move them. I think I will just wait.

I actually did that when ours was the same size as yours - we had such trouble keeping steady temps and humidity in the plastic one she was in that the wooden viv we use for our reptiles seemed much the better way to go - we've never had problems with those.

The viv was (still is) the same size as the one you're thinking of. Like Daniel (after consulting with people here) I did all the screwing up of newspaper balls and we had in 3-4 hides and plastic foliage (it looked so dense in there and like she hardly had room to move). She went in with no problem - continued eating and everything. She has always been a calm snake and never easily stressed - it may be different with others of course. But this is just my 2 cents worth ... (or pence as it is here in UK!)
