HELP! BP Baytril Reaction?
Hey All,
I am treating one of my BP babies that has an RI with a daily dose of injectable Baytril 22.7mg/mL (0.05) CC. The BP I am treating is about 260 grams at the moment. I suppose I have questions and concerns, because I know that Baytril has it's ups and downs, and I'm a skeptic.
Question: Is this dose size and frequency acceptable for a BP of this size? I cannot find much information on recommended dose sizes and this is my first battle with an RI.
Concern: I believe that my snake had some sort of reaction to the Baytril injection (which is surprising because this is not the first injection I've given him and he took it like a champ). Immediately after I took the needle out, the snake began corkscrewing and vomited a clear, mucus-like liquid. I could also see his little heart beating frantically. I nearly started crying it was such a horrible sight.
Sidenote: Of course, I'm taking the snake back to the vet :O I just need to know if I can do anything while the office is closed.
Re: HELP! BP Baytril Reaction?
Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry to hear that! That must have been gut wrenching to see.
I'm a complete newbie myself and have no experience or advice with this situation in snakes.
I do however have a lot of experience with chicks and chickens and have had to give injections before. Where exactly on the snakes body did you do the injection and how deep? I'm concerned that you potentially punctured / injected into either the lung or possibly the esophagus or upper intestine.

I’ve been checking this thread a couples times a day myself hoping for an update. I hope everything is ok for the snake.
