biting....

Im having a little bit of a problem with my snake. Its like he trys to bite me half the time I go to hold him and the other half hes just real fine with it. And also im worried because whenever I walk past his cage he crulls(cant spell i think) up and trys biting me and half the time he hits the glass and that cant be good for him can it?

How is your enclosure set up? Do you have hides? What are your temperatures? How long have you had the ball python? .....the more info the better :)

I have one hide, a water bowl, tempatures are fine, and anything else?

Is it a baby?

How long have you had him? If you just bought the ball python, did you give it atleast 1 week to settle in to its new surroundings? If you have let him settle in, you should slowly ease the snake into handling.....it should calm down eventually :) Also, I would get another hide.....one hide on a cool side with a temperature between 82-84 deg F and one hide on the warm side with a temperature between 92-94 deg F. That will make the snake feel much more secure.

Hes about 5-6 months old. Iv had him for about 1 to 2 months and he settle for a week when I first got him. And i will also work on the 2nd hide. Also, should I worry about him hurting his self when biting the glass??? I know it would hurt me

Is your enclosure in a high-traffic area - lots of activity and folks tromping past it etc?

Well hitting the glass can't be that nice for the snake but what I'd worry about is what is causing him to feel so highly defensive and the stress that comes with that.

Definitely a hide on both sides (anything will work really, a small plastic bowl flipped over with a hole cut in it, margarine container, etc.). Also you might consider moving the snake to the quietest, darkest place in your house till it's settled in more or trying Adam's trick of adding many small balls of newspaper to the cage to help your snake feel safer when moving around. Some folks also tape black paper to three sides of the enclosure to cut down on the snake feeling so exposed when it's outside of it's hide.

Where did you get the snake from? Was it captive bred and born? Was it in good condition when you got it?
