Housing together?

Getting a pair of baby dwarf boas (Tamaulipas) and was curious if I can keep them in the same cage?

No, you don't want to keep them in the same cage. Cohabitation is quite stressful for many reptiles and generally shouldn't be done outside of purposeful breeding. Two boas in the same cage would be competing for hides, a basking spot, and space on a daily basis, and feeding time would be tricky. Aggression could easily arise in this situation, and there's always the possibility that one boa could up and decide to eat the other.

The good news is that Tamaulipas boas are quite small (they tend to max out around a little under five feet), so two separate cages shouldn't take up much room! A 4'x2'x2' enclosure would keep a Tamaulipas satisfied for life. The two babies you have coming in would probably be happy in the equivalent of their own 20L for their first year or two, so you have quite a bit of time before you have to find adult enclosures.

Good luck with your new boas! Keep us posted on how things go -- nobody else around here really keeps Tamaulipas boas (or post about it, at least!). I was considering picking one up myself before I decided to go with a Sonoran boa.

The short answer is no. They aren't social animals and do not do well cohabitated. The animals will be stressed which could lead to food refusals as well as weaken their immune systems. They'll compete for hides or hot spots, etc....

And I'll make it "no" number 3...just please don't! ;)

Okay, thanks for the advice. Been an iguana breeder for 20 years and got out of the lizard business 5 years ago. Got an itch and picked up a male Tarahumara boa and really dig him. So just bought a pair of Tamaulipas boas from Jungle Bobs (produced by Vin Russo) to be delivered this Thursday. I will house separately.
