Can my bp see?

Hello. I have a 3ft ball python and it is a lemonblast. She just shed and he eyes are clear but
She is acting weirdly. She has trouble getting around things,and bumps into things ALOT it is almost
acting blind. She will rapidly bump into things until she finds an opening. I don't know what is wrong :snake::confusd:

This apparent problem with seeing only started after her shed? Are you SURE the eye-caps came off with the shed skin? (double-check the shed)

If it's not that, you might want to have a reptile vet check her out...how old is she? I'm not up on BP morphs, but it's always possible with inbred snakes to have
some inherited deficiency, & I don't see why it couldn't be blindness...but let's see if anyone else on here is aware of similar problems. Snakes can also get cataracts
in their eyes, usually later in life, but that shouldn't start suddenly after a shed. More likely the old eye-caps never came off. (if that's the case, please get help from
a vet-don't make the mistake that some have & caused permanent damage to their snake's eyes trying to remove stuck eye-caps.)

She has been doing it before shed too. She is 3 to 4 years old and her eyes look normal

Well initially you made it sound as if this just started post-shed...:confusd: Anyway, cannot answer your question but maybe a vet can.

I have noticed something similar with my BP. Not sure if it is normal or not, but sometimes it looks like he can't see where the opening to his hide is and has to feel around for it or find it by smell. He will sometimes miss the entrance and just go past it. I'm also not sure if I'm misinterpreting his behaviour and he is just nosing around his hide for some other reason.

One theory I have is that BPs can't see well when it's bright, as I sometimes turn off the light when handling my BP because he becomes active when it's dark, and he moves around very purposefully and smoothly. I don't think he is blind because his pupils dilate and constrict according to brightness and he reacts to visual stimuli like light. Maybe try checking if your BP'S eyes are responding to light? They should be slits when it's bright during the day or the lights are on, and they can become large and almost round in shape when it's dark, especially if they are excited and hunting. If the pupils are not changing shape this could be an eye problem and a vet trip would be a good idea.

Most snakes don't have great vision to begin with- many use vision mostly to go after motion, but not to actually identify things like prey...for that, they use scent &
touch. Some snakes selectively bred for fancy colors (etc) might in fact have inherited worse vision, it's entirely possible your snake has worse vision than others.
BPs are nocturnal about hunting anyway...and as far as I know, none of them carry flashlights. :D We aren't seeing your snake's behavior, so you might also be mis-
interpreting your snake's intentions. Your snake's photo doesn't give any clues about your snake's vision, sorry. As noted, a vet might be able to tell you more.

Ok. If this helps, she will bump into something, jerk her head back a little and the bump into it again. She will do this VERY FASTLY until she eventually finds an opening

Just like a blind human tapping places with a white cane...;) I agree, her vision is very poor.
