how big is too big for a BP?
I need to get my BP out of the aquarium he's in. Humidity and temps are good, but it is taking a lot of effort. How big is too big for a BP? I have one of those huge tubs from Wal-mart? He is about 8 months old, around 2 feet in length. Thanks for your opinions.

Tubs aren't that expensive, so I would gradually increase the size of the enclosure. Just remember too that the smaller the tub the easier to maintain temps. Now for a snake only 2 feet in length? Well, that's still pretty small, so don't go crazy. If it's large add lots of extra hides and maybe some vines or newspaper balls to it. I don't know that that was much help.... :slamhead:

    Are you wanting exact measurements?

Depends on which huge tub you mean from WalMart. Like Christie said tubs are cheap so you could always save the bigger tub for later and just go with an intermediate size. Then after that snake is done with it you can clean it up good and put it away for the next growing snake. Little Malachi is using all of Rionach's baby stuff (sterlized and all that) and doing just as nicely as Ri Ri did in her baby sterlite.

I think that tub was around $7.00. Even my big tubs for the bigger snakes are just around $12.00.

What is a good guesstimite is if it's a little longer than they are from corner to opposite corner. So (I will never hear the end of this if I'm not 100% right) a good guess for a two foot snake would be about a three foot long tub by a foot and a half. Then another bigger one in 6-8 months.

And yes I always bring a tape measure with me to Walmart...

the big tub that I have is like 52 inches long; more than double the size of the snake. I have read that too big a tub can create a nervous snake....but it seems to me that in the wild...they live in a pretty huge tub. It seems to me that they would enjoy having more room to roam.

Sorry, but that is not correct. They actually live in very small homes and only come out to eat and then retreat back into the little huts. They live in, I think, termite mounds in Africa. Most snakes are not travelers at all.

a good tub is the 32 qt. made by sterilite. i find these at my local target. i think the rough size is 22x17x6. they can stay in there for a while.
