I haven’t read the ‘story’ yet but I’m not sure I believe it was 8” though - aren’t they normally about 18 “ to 20” at birth ??

I think you're correct. And if he's waiting until she stops growing before getting an "official" measurement, well snakes never stop growing until they die, so don't hold
your breath? I really wouldn't call this a safe situation with this pet...it appears he thinks it's fine to work with her by himself...I hope I'm wrong.

I was always told that for every 4 feet after 8 feet, you need an additional person. Even with his partner, it would not be enough people around in case of an emergency, right? I mean realistically that rule is hard to follow... I'm not even sure how effective it is, but definitely better than being alone with a big snake like that should accidents happen, which are uncommon but big things are going to move in big ways. Forgive my ignorance, is there a way to save yourself without assistance?

Nope, a snake that size can EASILY restrain & kill a human, even a big strong guy (like this guy) is NOT safe.

I don't know of any exact rule for safety, since everyone has different size, strength, experience & issues, but if this guy works this snake alone, he's just an accident waiting to make a headline...& not a good headline for the snake-keeping community.

Many say to keep alcohol or vinegar on hand to make the snake release a bite, but that only helps if you can get a hand & arm free... And a person could be very dead before a group of people could get this snake off. Not saying that any snakes "want" to kill people...nothing further from the truth...but misperceptions do happen, & snakes may either be defensive or worse, food-aggressive. Can happen pretty fast.

I saw this article on Facebook. It’s a beautiful animal but it isn’t the biggest by any stretch and it isn’t even close to 18 feet either. Also it was never 8 inches except for when it was in the egg at some point. I love to see positive articles but I can’t stand when they don’t know what they’re talking about or give false info. There’s no reason for that if they are going to do a story get the facts strait.
Fantasia here in New York was 19.6 measured limp.
There was also one 21.7’ in the UK.
