DIY Fake Plant Base. No more falling plants!
Hello,
I was looking for tutorials for building bases for fake plants, but I couldn't really find anything, so I decided to try making my own, and it worked out pretty well, so I thought I'd share.
You need:
- Epoxy resin - I used this, and it could be used for easily 5+ plants: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BM9LHRB
- Pea pebbles - I bought them on amazon, but I wont even bother linking cause you could get these from outside. It was not economical to buy them, at least not the ones I did.
- Deli cups - I used 32 oz because that's what I had on hand and I did like them particularly because the high sides supported the plants. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078ZMXJKX/
- 1/4 cup measuring spoon
- Fake plants! I got mine at Michaels. They had a really good selection.
One problem I had was I had to destroy the deli cups to remove the base. You might be able to solve this issue by lining it with some tape or plastic wrap, but they aren't that expensive when I buy them in bulk, so I wasn't worried about it.
1. First, I used the measuring spoon to measure out 1 part of the resin and 1 part of the hardener. The full 1/4 may be a bit much for your tastes, but I preferred the sturdier, the better.

2. Dump these together into the deli cup and stir thoroughly.
3. Pour in as many pea pebbles as you want evenly across the bottom.

4. Insert the tip of the plastic plant

5. Let it sit for a day. Then use some cutters to cut off the deli cup (there may be a better solution to this than what I did)

The end result will be something like this:

I haven't tested it myself, but they seem super sturdy to me. They'd probably work particularly well for a smaller snake or fake plants with a lower center of gravity.

...you just gave me a very good idea on how i can keep my fake plant suction cups from continuously falling down.
do the same thing, but put a small magnet into the resin. boom: magnetic plants!
