    Tank humidity ideas
    Hi!
I had my BP for about 6 months. And although his sheds has been perfect it’s also been quite a job keeping the humidity up for him spraying multiple times per day. As me and my husband are getting two more snakes I am looking at ways to make it easier than constantly spraying. We do use glass tanks. Not sure about switching to tubs... definitely want my boa in a glass tank with enough climbing space. Plus we do add extra insulation around our tanks as temps at our house are around 65. Our setup for our boy has been: 20 gallon with UTH on thermostat. CHE on thermostat. Paper towels. We tried adding wet towels over the cage, wrapping the top in aluminum foil etc.

    a few ideas I’ve had:

    - Taking covers and towels off screen tops, adding humidifier near cages set on 50-60%
    - Using two UTH instead of One UTH and CHE (only wondering how that’ll keep up ambient temp)
    - Adding walls to reptile corner and putting space heater on thermostat controller and heating entire area for snakes and get rid of CHE (this modification might take a little time)
    - Switching to all moss or other type substrate

any other ideas would be super appreciated!!

I would definitely switch to a coco coir substrate. That'll make a HUGE difference.

One other thing I do that goes a long way is adding a second water bowl, or if room allows just swap out the current water bowl for a larger one.

I use a uth and che as the temps in my house run a bit low too usually. I like the forest floor bedding and use two water dishes...one on cool side and one on warm. I use the che to keep ambient temps around 80 and uth to keep his warm hide around 90. When the humidity starts to drop, I spray the substrate down real good. I keep most of the screen top covered with either insulation board or aluminum foil. The humidity stays usually around 50-55. When I spray it down good it will spike to around 70 but will level out within a couple hours. Good luck.

I have used humidifiers as long as I’ve kept. I would also shy away from Che’s they zap much more humidity then comparable bulbs. Substrate and uth’s are also a big plus, and very good as far as keeping humidity up. Chicago winters with the heat on are brutal.
