B.C.C color question

Hello I was wondering how the colors and pattern progresses on b.c.c red tails. I’m interested in a Suriname and I noticed that the younger hatchlings are a grayish color whereas most of the older ones are more tan. Also is there more speckling as they age? Both are beautiful but I just want to know what to expect and how to better pick a young snake to fit my preferences. Thanks

All boas (BC and Bi - it's no longer BCc and BCi) have what we call 'baby grays'. The grey color fades and they gain yellow as they age which is why baby boas are gray and adults are tan/brown of both subspecies. The fading of the gray also usually allows more of the pinks/reds to show through. Speckles vary and typically remain about the same however yes they may gain some with age as well.

Yes that helps a lot. Thanks so much. I knew bci is now bi but I didn’t know that bcc is now bc. Very cool.
ok so basically I need to ignore the actual color of them for now but just look at pattern, “cleanliness/dirtiness”, and intensity. I’m in love with them and there’s a Suriname I have my eye on but he’s a bit more speckled than I would prefer. Thanks for the insight!

Ask the breeder for pictures of the parents, might help in making a decision.

Creeper was totally gray when he was a hatchling. The second pic is two years old.

I love the baby grey. I wish they would stay that way as they get older.

I like it as well......but I love how the reds in the tail contrast with the tan shades moreso than the gray...

You could always get an anerythristic common boa if you like the grey. Although then they don’t have red tails.

just FYI, a lot of adult anerys will still turn out light tan/brownish as the morph only removes red, they still gain the yellow

I like the gray as well which was why I was wondering. All good though, they are gorgeous animals either way. Going to start my build soon and should have one within a year.
