The power clean yoga session.

This has been a long time coming. Wallace and I have had our spats and I've been working at retraining and conditioning him.
I need him to become accustomed to our handling sessions and begin and end on a positive note when we interact.

Today was flawless at least with that part of the equation. Wallace recently destroyed his LED lights and tore the thermostat probe out of the ceiling. I'm betting I left some slack in between some of the connections and he nosed his way between them and ripped the light and the probe down. I also broke a tab that secures the door on the right. I had to replace it today as well.

I used my new hook and gloves to take Wallace to his new containment tub. I was chilled out and I didn't need the gloves. He readily went into the tub and I was ready to clean.

A 6 foot cage holds lots of substrate but I got it all out. (hanging probe on the right)

The remainder of the lights were taken out and I sanitized everything. Note I removed the huge perches. That process took all of about 2 minutes so don't be afraid to deck out your enclosures. It doesn't add much to the cleaning time.

Here's where the fun began. I'm 5' 10" (shrank a bit from my youth) the cage is a 6 footer so I had to get my yoga game on to do this.

The only way to secure lights and cords to the ceiling of a 6' X 30" X 2' cage is to get into it. At least that's the case with this cage.


There was a lot of stretching, bending and contorting which I managed to do fairly well to deal the confined space.

It was a completely successful day. The cage is at its finest and Wallace was not only a gentleman, he seemed to like the new substrate he got.

Nice overhaul. I hear ya on the contortions and such. If my Carpets found any slack whatsoever or gaps between the lights and ceiling they would yank the lights down and swing on them like a swing set. A major repair pain for sure.

It was a big stress reliever. Both the handling and repairs were bothering me.

The lights in his cage are better too. I had some issues with the first string.
These are perfect.

It’s nice to see something other than the typical sterile newspaper and water dish cage! I think animals just look better in a more natural looking setup.

He's settled in and quiet calm. I hope you and the scrubby are managing to get on well!

2 days later the light strip on the left stopped working. GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

I'm hoping it is a connection issue and not a faulty strip.


As you can see by the photos earlier in the post, it is not easy for me to secure them to the ceiling. I'm not real keen on crawling back into that cage to redo things, but I may have no choice.
