Snake mites

Hey guys I picked up my snake today and a mite fell off of him. Any idea how to completely get rid of them and off my snake. I’ve looked for the reptile spray but they are out of stock everywhere. Plz help

See this is a strange one ... first I’ve never heard of snake mites falling off a snake so this is a new on on me .

Also you mentioned your snake died a few days ago after you took it out with you on an errand !?!?

Is this another snake or am I getting things mixed up here ..

I'm throwing this out there, not as a dig on OP, but as a learning experience...

This is yet another great example of why we should AVOID BUYING ANIMALS FROM BIG BOX PET STORES.
I put that in CAPS, not to sound like I'm telling, but to stress the importance of the statement.
So as a public service announcement, PLEASE STOP SUPPORTING BIG BOX PET STORES people. Until they put the animals ahead of dollars (which will NEVER happen) please stop putting dollars in their pockets and allowing them to profit off of their negligence.


OP, I'm sorry your experiences are going the way they are. Please take this as a learning experience.
Honestly, if it were me, I'd be bringing the snake back and demanding a full refund. If they gave me any resistance I'd simply state that my experiences will be out all over social media. They gladly refund the money rather than deal with the public negativity.
...then use your money to buy from a reputable breeder.

Theres a first for everything and obviously it’s a different snake you think I’d still be playin with a dead one? Could’ve atleast put some thought into your response before posting it. Also How many posts do you expect me to have if I’ve just made this account on here, once again out thought into your response before you respond to somebody and make sure the information is useful.

We do get people coming in here on the wind up ... your first post told some story of you taking your 4 month old snake out on an errand with you ( a big NO~NO incidentally) after which it died ... . Then a week later you start a second thread saying that a mite fell off your snake when you picked it up ...

Despite your attitude, you'll probably still receive help for the sake of your snake, but next time, you should really reconsider your approach.

Sorry to hear about mites. They’re a pain to deal with but getting rid of them isn’t too difficult. I had them when I first got my BP, so here’s what I did to get rid of them for good. I’m not a super experienced keeper but this worked for me.

The first thing you’ll need is a good de-mite spray to treat the enclosure. I use Provent-A-Mite (PAM) from Pro Products. Next you’ll need a remedy soak to treat the animal. I used Reptile Relief.

Find a plastic container that your snake can fit in and coat him in the reptile relief. Let him sit in the container for about 20 minutes. Next, wash the reptile relief off with water and fill the plastic container with water up to his chin and let him soak in that for about 20 minutes to rehydrate him from the reptile relief.

Now to treat the enclosure. Start by removing all decor (fake plants, hides, water dish, etc.) from the tank. These should be cleaned with a water and bleach solution and then left to soak in a container full of water for an hour. Make sure none of the decor is above water level so the mites on it will drown. Next, dispose of all substrate far away from the room the snake is in. Clean out the tank with water and and mild cleanser like Dawn dish soap. When your decor is finished soaking, rinse thoroughly with water and leave to dry in the sun or dry manually with a hair dryer. At this point I would suggest using paper towels as substrate since they are good for monitoring your snake’s health. Fill up your clean tank with a few layers of paper towels and all the squeaky clean decor, except for the water dish which we will add last. Now it’s time for PAM! Follow the instructions on the can to safely apply this spray to the enclosure. This is important, as PAM is strong, and can be harmful to your snake if used improperly.

After your enclosure has aired out, you can put your water dish and snake back in his home.
Fortunately, PAM also protects your enclosure from mites for about a month.
I also repeated the reptile relief treatment two more times, one week apart to make sure all mites were killed. They are persistent little buggers so you need to be thorough. I treat my enclosure for mites every time I do a deep clean just to be on the safe side.
