I'm not well versed in the lizard world so I'm of no help here but if that is in fact a Mexican beaded lizard aren't they venomous? Be sure to check with your local exotic pet laws.

Did some research. Yes they are venomous and on the endangered species list. It is illegal for me to have him. Their best bet is the zoo and I put them in touch with a herper that works with the zoos reptiles that is a friend of mine. There are estimated to be less than 200 in existence. The guy that had him was breaking so many local laws.

Yep 100% heloderma horridum aka Mexican beaded lizard, check your local laws and handle with care. This is one of the two venomous lizards in the world the other being a gila monster. You can set him up in a 4 ft enclosure with aspen bedding and a hot basking side in the high 80s.

They are on the endangered species list. Less than 200 in existence. No one is allowed to keep privately. He will be going to the local zoo.

    I'm confused....

    Was it "found locally"?

Or was there "a guy that had him"?

It is legal to own them here in PA, they are sold and traded at shows with Gila monsters. It all depends where you are located and your local laws on keeping venomous reptiles.

If it is on the endangered species list then a federal permit from US FWS is needed to keep it.

They are not on the endangered species list and you do not require a permit to own one in most states. The main hurdle is they can't be shipped like you would none venomous reptiles. They require shipping via delta airlines.
