How to manage ambient temperature
Currently i'm using a 50w lamp to heat up the temperature. The ambient temperature in the terrarium usually ranges to about 85-90F but when I turn it off at night it drops to mid 70s. Is this alright to do or should I invest in a proper ceramic heat emitter and probably a second thermostat for the new lamp?

Ambient should be 78/80 and hot side should be 88/90
So how do you provide a hot spot and a cool spot? Usually the hot spot will be provided with a UTH and a thermostat as for the ambient temp it will depends on the room temp itself, and if that is not high enough you will need supplemental heat , it can be a heated room if you have several animals, a heat lamp or a second UTH with a Tstat set to achieve optimal temps on the cool side.
I have a uth with a thermostat for a hot side. I've only used the heat lamp for a few days to gauge how hot it would be and unfortunately it was too hot. Throughout the day the average temperature is about mid 70s. I'll be sure to get a che and second thermostat soon so I can have a proper temp.

Pretty much any heat source should be regulated, yup. You're on the right track.

All heating elements in regards to captive reptile husbandry need to be regulated. Period.
