Feeding time scare.

It all depends on what you're feeding...you might be right. ;)

Meh, it happens sometimes. Just grab the big ball o' snake and put it back into the enclosure. They're so focused on "killing" their food they don't care what you're doing with them.

This time of year most of mine stay in feeding mode for days, so I take the opportunity to change the water while they are constricting and anchored.

So what do you do there Sky? Do you let him finish and then return him to his enclosure or do you throw him back in while he's still constricting the prey?

Yup...though I prefer to let them start swallowing first...there ARE snakes that will let go for something bigger, ROFL.

She went right back home after eating it. She really likes her enclosure. I tried once to lift her back in with the food in her mouth and she spit it out to look at me. Having her shoot out about 5 feet for food was a little scary. She just sits and waits for it most of the time. I jumped back quickly and she hit her target (the bird) with the precision of a guided missile. I was like, so..... now what am I going to do? I am happy she went back home. A mainland female retic in food mode is no joke.

Oh, OK....you didn't really explain what you meant, that normally she waits for it.

Certainly no joke, & personally, I'd modify the way I feed so that never happens again...since you cannot depend on the accuracy of snakes in feed-mode.

So were you alone when you fed her? If so, you should really re-think your safety protocols, IMO...she's a growing girl, yeah? Can't depend on luck & reflexes.
