7.1 Earthquake in Ridgecrest, California

First, as a former long-time resident of Southern California & veteran of large earthquakes (including Landers 7.3 in 1992) my thoughts & best wishes extend to all
those directly affected. It's horrible to experience such damage to your home, your belongings, your life, your employment & your psyche, but you'll mostly get thru
all this; it's a time when communities pull together & deal with the essentials to move beyond the chaos. Realistically, those most affected are not likely to be online
reading this, only those farther from the epicenter, but it's a reminder for us all that disasters can happen anywhere, anytime...how many of us are ready with the
supplies on hand needed for our human & animal families? Something to think about...no matter where we live, eh? How many of us could cope with the loss of our
utilities, or the roof over our heads? Earthquakes, if you've never been in one, are really unnerving: often you're awakened from a sound sleep to things crashing
around you & your house making sounds that you've never heard or imagined. But even when it quits, it's never done. The aftershocks just keep coming, and you
never know if what you thought was "the earthquake" was actually just a fore-shock to something much bigger.

To everyone affected...hang in there!

Yep, we're in Vegas and was 19 floors up. Needless to say, it was definitely unnerving. We were here for the 6.4 a few days ago and remember thinking, "this may not be the worst". We are now sitting in the Vegas airport for a 7am flight home.

This was our first ever.

I'm south of the epicenter, so thankfully no injury or property damage here, but this one certainly shook things up more than the previous day's quake. I was actually feeding my snakes when it happened, and I had to put down the f/t rat and steady myself against the wall until it passed. Meanwhile, both of my BPs had their heads poked out of their hides and slightly swaying with the quake movements -- probably wondering what was delaying the arrival of their food.

When I lived in So Calif. my snakes never seemed to pay much attention to the earthquakes...probably because half the things we do (like opening their cages)
feels the same way? They're used to being shaken & stirred up by us. :snake:

I'm a firm believer that Mother Nature is furious with the human race for destroying her planet, and the uptick in natural disasters the last 2 decades or so are her way of fighting back. Humans ruin everything.

If that's the case, I only wish Mother Nature would be a little more "specific" with the punishment. ;)

I know what it’s like going through tough times. Earth quakes suck but the hurricanes I’ve been through are terrible too!!
