Would these tubs be big enough?

I'm going to be just starting out with a pair of ball pythons, so a rack seems like overkill at the moment. So I figure, why not just start with tubs layed out next to each other?

If not, does anyone have a source for the correct size with nice snap latches all around like these have?

What size animals are you getting? Hatchlings? Sub-adullts, Adults?

I was hoping to start with adults.
I'm guessing from the question, that this isn't big enough for adults then?

Those are 37 quart tubs.. For adult males and most females those would be fine. If you were planning on putting babies in there then it would have been too big.

Understand you are going to get differing opinions on here as far as size.. I keep all of mine up to 1800-2000 grams in 28 quarts.. Bigger males and females will go in 42's or 41's i cant remember exactly..

So to answer your question you should be fine if they are adult males or smaller females..

How do you plan on heating them?

Probably with some heat tape underneath. Obviously, I wouldn't set them up on carpet. I don't think 92-ish degrees would hurt hard floors.

I've had the pads ruin a shelf.. I have never put them on hardwood so I am not sure what would happen..

Hmmm... in that case, I'll pick up a few sample ceramic tiles from the hardware store to set up to protect the floor.

I would maybe get some plastic shelves - some of the snap together types aren't that expensive. If you're regulating the pads with a thermostat, it won't melt the plastic, and will protect your floors. Plus, you won't have to bend over to do maintenance (as I get older, I appreciate this more and more lol)... oh, and heat mats don't help with ambient heat, so the higher you can get the tubs off the floor, the more likely you are to be able to maintain a warmer ambient temp. Heat rises, so the floor is the coolest place.
