DEhumidifiers?

Just wondering what ya'll think about dehumidifiers.

So far i haven't found any that are snake safe or pet safe for that matter. Anyone know of ZooMed or some other reptile product company making them?

Why do you think that you need a dehumidifier?

Winter is dry ... ball pythons need 50% - 60% relaitve humidity .... a dehumidifier really isn't the best idea this time of year.

Have you replaced the substrate with newspaper?

Yes, i meant dehumidifiers..

I took out the coconut bark and left just the newspaper.. i also moved him (my red-tail.. sorry i realize i posted this in the ball section :\) into a 20 gallon glass cage with a SCREEN top and the humidity has jumped to 90. I'm really about to give up. I feel so bad for this poor snake. He's already starting to make wheezing and popping noises.

I really don't see how the humidity can be that high under those conditions. What are you using to measure the humidity? Is condensation forming on the glass? What is the humidity of the room? Is the humidifier that you had still on somewhere? Can you take a picture of the setup?

Sorry for all the questions....but the more information that you provide the better we can understand the situation :)

Digital or analog?

I'm using a Kritterz Hygrometer.. Analog i suppose since it sure as heck isn't digital.

Yes, condenstation is forming on the glass. To the point where i can barely see in.

My redtails cage is in the bathroom and the humidity in there is less than the humidity in my room and that's where my Balls cage is. Their screen is almost completely taped off, i have a humidifier running and the main light source is over their water dish and their humidity is at 60%.

No. the humidifier is in my closet about 100 ft away from the redtails cage and i'm certain it isn't running.

I wish i could take a picture but my webcam doesn't reach that far. I'll see if i can bring the cage into my room later and post a picture.

Right now i have the screen off his cage to let the humidity out and i have the little guy on my lap. I feel like crap about all this.

Those sounds are signs of a respiratory infection which has more to do with improper temperatures than humidity. I would make an appointment with a vet experience in the diagnosis and treatment of reptiles ASAP.

and get a digital. throw the analog as far as you can.
