Beep inhaled water

Bad luck with my BPs lately I guess. So I noted that one of mine was soaking a little in his water dish (pretty common for him with smaller dishes). I went over by his tub (clear) to feed my pacman frog and all of a sudden I hear some really loud hacking and wheezing. He inhaled some water and it scared him bad enough that he pooped, poor guy. I'm assuming it's because he's either blind or has limited vision and is flinchy as a result, I made a sudden movement, and the heat signature freaked him out.

Mostly just wanting to know if I need to be concerned about anything, or if he's good. I got pretty shaken up, but he seems fine, tongue flicking and noodling around like normal now. Should I monitor him for the next while or is there really no need? Thanks yall. :)

That's a new one on me...I don't think I've ever had a snake inhale water? :confusd: If he seems fine though, I guess he is...look at the bright side, if he ever
gets constipated, now you know how to make him go? ;) (poor guy, you really must be scary!? LOL)

Not to doubt you, but are you sure what you heard was him swallowing water and not just, well, flatulence and poop sounds? They can be noisy with their "bathroom habits" sometimes.

I'll go with Craig's post, that's way more likely.

Lmao!! Yeah I'm sure though, opened up his tub and watched him cough for a second in shock. He just pooped the night before with his shed, and this time it was just the littlest bit so I assumed it was just because he got spooked. Basically my snake's a blind idiot. He also struck at a cup of coffee once because it was hot and scary, so I dunno what I really expect from this dude anymore.

BPs don't rely on vision to identify things. (neither do most other snakes) BPs have heat-sensing pits that they DO rely on...striking a cup of coffee was
probably NOT about "fear" but about hoping that warmth meant dinner was nearby & needed catching! Expect more of the same, anytime you wave your
warm appendages around him...snakes aren't the only ones that make mistakes, you know? :D

Most snakes have poor vision; they go after motion but don't actually identify things that way: they use scent, heat-sensing pits IF they have them, & touch.

He doesn't react to motion at all unless it's warm, unlike my other BPs. He's really flinchy and I'm pretty lucky I haven't been bitten by him yet lol! That's how he inhaled his water, I probably scared him by moving by his tub or it took him a while to notice I was there. I agree its really hard to tell when snakes are blind because they don't rely on eyesight that much, but either way he's still a jumpy little dude! He's doing fine today at least, I just got worried last night about possible complications later down the line and likely overreacted.
