    IBD question
So I've read that IBD can be detected with blood tests, but was unable to find much on the cost of said tests. I found that the test needed are: "Blood samples from a subset of these snakes also were tested using polymerase chain reaction. Routine and special staining techniques showed there was good agreement between the presence of reptarenavirus in the blood cells, and being IBD-positive." Source: https://www.sciencedaily.com/release...1216142842.htm I've only seen IBD once in person, but on the site listed it was reported that out of 131 snakes 19% were infected. So since there is a test for it now I am guessing that it is ridiculously expensive or else everyone would be testing their snakes.

I looked up PCR and it sounds like a DNA based test. Those tend to be quite pricey. The only way to find out for sure is to contact a lab or a very experienced reptile vet. If I have some time I will do some research on this myself. I am always curious out this type of thing.

If your own vet can't do the test then a lab would have to, and you'd have to pay for the vet to draw the blood sample + overnight shipping + tests.

http://www.vetdna.com/test-type/reptiles has their fee schedule for testing on their web site if you are interested in how much they typically cost.

Man, i got ripped on the last battery of tests I ran. My vet and I are going to have a little "discussion". Thanks for the info.

I don't see a test for reptarenavirus on their list.
