Hygrometer problems

Hi everyone! I made some posts here months ago asking on how to get my boas tank set up right with temps and bedding etc well now with the help of this forum my set up is 100x better! So figured I'd ask about another minor problem I'm having

So about a month ago I upgraded my analog thermomemter and hygrometer to digital ones. I'm using flukers brand. Well everything seems to work ok except one thing

I notice when I wake up in the morning the cage needs to be misted. The meter will say Its at about 45-55 %. So I grab myister and spray 1 quick mist for like 2 secs. Imediately the meter will go from 45% all the way to 85-90 % then will keep going up until it reaches 99%. Then it will read at 99% for like half an hour. Then the levels will begin to drop.

I have two of these units and both do the same. One tiny split second mist will cause the levels to go to 99 automatic lly. This can't be right can it? Has anyone else had this issue? I guess this week on payday I'll try to pick up another unit to use.

Just wondered though has anyone else had this issue?

What kind of substrate do you use and what kind of enclosure?

I am not familiar with your specific hydrometer... but, I mist my enclosure as well, and I know if I leave hydrometer in there and get it wet during the misting, the humidity shows really high as well. I guess because it is actually getting wet from the misting.

So... I usually take out the meter, mist the enclosure, then put it back in after the mist. THAT method seems to work correctly.

I use zoo med forest floor. And I just have a normal glass enclosure with a screen lid

Charles--- Wow thanks! I should thought of that.

Just did what you said and I'm getting a accurate reading.

Covering half of the lid will also help keep humidity in. Glass tanks are pretty tricky to keep humidity up in.

Yeah that's the worst part of having a glass enclosure from what I can tell. Right now I'm just using two wet towels on top of the tank. Which I don't like a whole lot cuz it looks kinda tacky, but it seems to work. Really want to save up for a boaphile cage. Hopefully I can get one soon
