    a little worried
ok so my baby girl ball has an awesome feeding response, does her doo regularly and her temps and humidity and everything are just right, but lately shes a little worrying, around her mouth (like where her tongue comes out) its getting like a grayish black colour and her tongue is more gray now than pink.my guys tongues are completely pink and they have nothing like this on them, i dont know if im worrying for nothing or anything, but any input would be greatly appreciated.if theres something seriously wrong i think i should move up her checkup appointment sooner but i dont want to seem silly or anything if its nothing.thanx:)

if she has mouth rot you may hear some squeaking or whistling type noises when she breathes. it may just be every once in a while--not every time she inhales or exhales. she also may rest with her head upward as opposed to laying flat in her cage. i had a bp with mouth rot and she would prop her head up on the side of her enclosure and i could hear her whistling occassionally as she exhaled. i don't remember her mouth or tongue being discolored though. is your snake due to shed soon? her tongue could look duller in color due to that.

shes going into shed, her eyes are glazing over, its just that my other guys didnt seem to have anything like this happening to them ( it seems all my snakes like to shed at the same time ;) ) i dont know i just worry all the time about everything, shes also been like this for a long while though. she kinda crackles every now and again, she also does that head resting thing you mentioned.it seems its uncomfortable having anything under her mouth, she even is curled up right now but its so that front of her mouth is sort of leaning up over her body

she crackles when she breathes? what do you mean by uncomfortable having anything in her mouth? is that when she is eating or have you tried looking in her mouth?

if she is going into shed she may whistle when she breathes due to the loosened skin around/in her nostrils. if she is making noises when she breathes and holding her head up other times it could be mouth rot or a respiratory infection.

well she used to seem to enjoy having underneathe her chin rubbed but now she wont let us near it, its only every once in a while that i hear a crackle and when i did try to look was just the area where her tongue comes out that has gotten slightly discolored (like a grayish color). i cant see any lesions or red dots or blood coming through like they say on the sites i checked out on snake diseases, theres also no blowing bubbles or extra saliva or anything like that, its just the discoloration int the tongue part of her mouth and thecrackle every now and then and the fact she doesnt seem to be as friendly as she used to.

i know what your talking about. the same thing happend to one of my girls but only the grayish colour of the mouth and tounge. this was months ago but now her tounge is pink again but the gray stayed the same. it's not mouth rot. i check her ocasionally and shes healthy.
anyone else have an idea why this happens??

yea she seems fine now, the darkness at the front of her mouth is fading and shes definatley in shed now cos she has beatiful steely blue eyes, i dont think that the discoloration is anything serious but nonetheless i think ill take her to the vet once she finishes her shed
