    storing feeders
I decided to purchase 10 rat pups AND 10 weened rats from layne labs in an effort to save on shipping.

I took the pups out and sealed them individually in vacuum freezer bags.

the bag with the weened rats is actually sealed rather well, and feels pretty air tight.... and has no damage from the dry ice. Obviously I will be feeding the weened rats after the rat pups. Should I just keep the entire bag in the freezer? Or should I individually vacuum seal them as well?

I was under the impression that individually sealing them is better for storage. Is this even true?

BTW....rat pups are adorable. feels bad man.

I seal mine in bags of 3-5 depending on which size prey it is. This way I'm not opening and closing the same bag too often.

I've never had any issues with freezer burn or any other negative effects from freezing that way.

It's certainly not the only way, but it's worked for me so I stick with it.

I would keep the weaned rats in the freezer in vaccuum sealed bag they came in until you need to feed them. But that's just me.

I order a couple hundred at a time and just keep them in the original bags. Anything else would be a giant pain. I have never had a problem with freezer burn. I think the longest I have kept anything frozen is six months.
