So...I Had Eye Surgery

Last Tuesday I had surgery to remove a cataract in my right eye. They had to replace my natural lens with an implant. I feel old but I am only 42. It's supposed to improve my vision by 5 dioptors. Given my visions was around -25 I can't see clearly but I should have a less strong prescription.

I have to put 2 drops in my eyes 4 times a day and another 3 times. Got to wear goggles to bed so I don't accidentally scratch my eye in my sleep. Can't bend over at the waist and look down. Easy to forget that last one.

Got a follow up on Wednesday and hope to get the green light to go get a new prescription. The disparity between my good eye and the repaired eye is really bad right now so I am wearing an prate eye patch. LOL!

It may be a hassle putting drops in right now, and it may not have fully corrected your vision but be thankful you have two functioning eyes and had the option of surgery.

Hope all goes well with you. My last eye appointment (about 6 months ago), I was told that I have the very beginning stage of cataracts. I am 48 and was told that nothing needed to be done at this time, but that will eventually change.

No one 'likes" having a surgical repair of any kind, but usually it beats the alternative, so think positive....heal well and heal fast. :cool: We're pulling for ya!

Welcome to the fun world of cataracts. :/ I had to have cataract surgery on both eyes (different occasions) when I was 35... Only about 20 years sooner than average.

They used a prescription lens in my implant too and it has helped me in terms of not needing glasses for every day walking around. That said, I now have to wear reading glasses because the implant lens won't focus like a natural lens (you can't squint and hold something close to see it better). Also, be aware that having surgery on it earlier than average means that your healing response may be faster which could cause issues. I've had to have laser surgery on my eyes a couple of times since because of scar tissue that was developing too fast and pulling at the edges of the implant causing blurry vision.
