Just got my baby home - questions
I’m sure this forum gets tons of these types of posts. However not sure exactly what search terms to use.

Just got got my baby ball python one from the breeder yesterday morning. He was shipped so was in transit for 16 hours or so. So far he’s been hiding in his cool hide the whole time and I haven’t seen him go into his warm hide at all. His cool hide is around 80-maybe 81 degrees and I have his UTH set with a thermostat on 91. Does that seem accurate? Just want to make sure it isn’t too warm for him since his been ok the cool spot the entire time so far...

Sounds good to me. They will definitely stay hidden, especially after a journey and a new home.

What are your actual surface temps? Since your tstat is set at 91 I'm guessing it could be somewhere between 86-92. Shoot for a surface temp around 88-90.

If by surface temps you mean down ok the substrate, that’s what I’ve been measuring. I have the thermometer probe on the ground level. I checked the hot hide temp on there inside before he came and it was around 91 (had it set at 92 first) so turned it down one notch to have it set at 90.
The only thing I’m wondering is if it gets a lot warmer inside of his hide because it’s plastic (the cool one) Thanks for your reply!
