the breeder we bought these from said they would take frozen mice. we tried them first (yes we thawed them out...lol) ares (mine) took it at first and then lost interest. my gf's refused it all together. went back and picked up 2 small mice and both snakes ate almost immediately. while im glad we got their first meal out of the way, im a bit upset they didnt take frozen. what would be the proper way to introduce them to frozen?
Re: first meal for adanis and ares
Fantastic setup, but from my point of view, I dont know, because my little monty took f/t mice from the get go. Sorry to hear about the bad experience w/ f/t but you can and will (Ive got full confidence in you) get them to eat f/t mice. How did you present the mice?
Re: first meal for adanis and ares
well we thawed them in warm water. dabbed them dry (just to stop the dripping). then held them by tongs and introduced them to the snake. my last bp wouldnt take frozen either...live and had to be completely white. any hints or suggestions?
Re: first meal for adanis and ares
Do you mean you dabbed them dry because you thawed them in warm water... like without a bag or anything? Try putting the frozen mouse in a ziploc bag or some other bag to keep them dry while you're soaking in the warm water.
Would you want a soggy piece of bread? :) I doubt your snake wants a soggy mouse.
Re: first meal for adanis and ares
Just curious...you house both snakes together right? If that's the case and you fed them both in the same cage. That may account for one eating and one not. If they don't feel secure they won't eat, so the dominant one may feel ok to eat, while the other does not. I would recommend getting separate cages, and at minimum feeding in separate enclosures. Just a thought.

Dry them with a hairdryer;)

when we introduced the f/t mice to them, they were seperated. thats when ares took the f/t hopper but then lost interest and adonis didnt act interested at all. i fed them both in the same tank but on opposite ends (this thing is plenty big enough) and they both ate very quickly.
