New Hampshire - Animal "Transfer" Bill

Thought I'd post this here in case anyone in New Hampshire doesn't watch USARK or other posts about this sort of thing. Keep an eye out for what happens with this bill, it is proposed to require documentation and registration with the state if you even "transfer" one animal.

More politicians that are out of touch. People like this banned chameleons from Massachusetts for many years because they were worried that they would become an invasive species...

This bill should be changed to be applicable to anyone who has a prior history of animal misconduct/neglect.

That's what I was thinking.. an animal abuse registry (like the sex offender one, perhaps) would be more helpful, and once on it, requiring warrantless searches could prevent further mistreatment of all animals or allow them to check for animals if someone reports they've seen something. (Not sure if the report of seeing an animal is enough for a warrant... if so, then that part seems useless also)

Especially if it were made public so animal sellers could look up potential buyers in the registry and refuse sales to ones on it (via name/photo or drivers license?).

Pretty interesting that by transferring an animal you are essentially giving up your 4th amendment rights in NH.

Makes me really glad I don't live there..

Texas is one of the more lenient states as far as I know. The only rules I've come across in research are a permit for selling CBB native species and a permit for retics/anacondas/rock pythons which are $20 at any place that sells licenses (including Walmart, last I checked).
There's a higher version for breeding/selling those 3 snake categories, but it seems reasonable. And at least isn't all-inclusive of every sale of every animal...

At least the bill in N.H. is still "just a proposal" (?) but I sure hope residents are paying attention. They need to speak up loudly.

It sounds like it is being heard next week, so definitely something happening soon. It never seems like these things hit much resistance once they've made it this far, but I hope someone takes action.

It would be awful if this went through, especially if it "works!" and makes other states want go mimic it.
