A new snake in his hiding box

I Have A New Baby Burmese Python I Now Have Had A Little Over A Week. He Hasn't Come Out Of His Hiding Box Yet. I Did A Few Days Ago Take A Adult Frozen Mouse And Dangled It In Front Of His Box. He Lifted Out Of The Hole And Took It And Ate It In His Hide. He Hasn't Come Back Out Since. How Long Does It Normally Take For A New Snake To Come Out And Adapt To Its Aquarium???

Anything up to a couple of weeks with some .. yours could be simply digesting it and /or could be going into shed mode which could mean a week hiding away ....

I'd research Burms and hides (or not ) ..

I bought a couple a few years back and both breeders suggested kinda quiet corners or dens made with a few branches in the viv ..

I asked about hides and they both said similar things ..

'Ya really don't want s 12' Burm flying out at you from their hide !'

It kinda made sense . Both mine were super tame ( very inquisitive though ) .. without hides .

I know some swear by hides so you'll have to see what the response is to me post :)

It can vary. Just make sure your husbandry is spot on and he will come out once he is comfortable. A week isn't that long. Especially if the snake is really young. I would just let him be unless you are feeding or cleaning.

I Am But I Also Had This Issue And Thought Some Could Address It. In The Past With Snakes I NEVER Used Hiding Boxes.

OK, I thought you didn't have a snake but now we know.

I've Kept Snakes Off And On Since The Seventies. I Also Have A Sweet Six Ft Yellow Anaconda And A Nice Boa. After This Blood I Got No More Room For Any More LoL!!!

You definitly did Bill, you mentioned it in a previous post. I just couldn’t remember if you had two or three. But I remember you mentioning a yellow anaconda! ;)

The burm I used to have hid quite a bit as a youngster, but got considerably bolder with gentle handling and growth. Once she got some size to her, she pretty much quit using the hides on her own. As mentioned by Zincubus, you don’t want a large burm flying out from a hidden position. It’s best to always know where the head is once they have some size.

Once He Comes Out Of Hiding And Tames Down And Gets Some Size To Him I'll Take Out The Hide Box. My Boa BABY GIRL Won't Even Use A Hide Box. She Just Curled Up On The Top And Enjoyed The Heat Lol ! Never Once Got Into It. That Shows Me How Socialable She Is. She Loves To Be Handled.
