    7Snakes Breeding Season 2019
I'd like to share my breeding plans and progress this year, so instead of posting random bits and pieces every time a relevant thread came up I decided to make my own. To start, here are some recent pairings I made over the winter that I think I might get eggs from this year.

    Confirmed locks:
    Pastel x Green Pastel
    Enchi Pied x Mojave
Enchi Pied x Cinnamon het Pied
Enchi Pied x Black Pastel het Pied

Pairied, but have not witnessed a lock:
Yellowbelly het Pied x Black Pastel het Pied
Yellowbelly het Pied x Normal het Pied
    Pied x Mojave
    Pied x Cinnamon het Pied
These guys just didn't seem up to the task, so I ended up putting my Enchi Pied in with most of them.

    First pairing of 2019:
Pied x Normal het Pied (no locks witnessed, but there wre signs of activity)
Trying to give this guy another chance. I thought maybe a different girl would help.

    First new pairing of 2019:
Leopard Spider poss Yb, 66% ph Pied x Pastel YB? het Pied
This guy just got up to size and he's trying so hard... he just can't seem to figure out where her cloaca is, lol

I appreciate his enthusiasm though, considering that two of my boys are sitting around like lumps on logs.

    He'll figure it out eventually.

Update: The day after I posted this I checked in on my female western hognose and she was HUGE. Pretty sure it was an ovy. It's a shame I didn't get a good picture. I'm excited though, she may lay my first eggs of the year. None of my BP girls have gone yet.

Also, the little dude figured it out!

Lucky for me, he's a quick learner. They're gonna make some gorgeous babies.

    Enchi Pied x Mojave
Enchi Pied x Black Pastel het Pied

Really excited for these two. Their babies are going to look great.

Got another lock from these two a few days ago, Enchi Pied x Mojave:

She's been doing a lot of building and bowl wrapping, so I have positive expectations for these two.

Tub is only bare because they like to snuggle under the blankets. I had to lift the paper to get a pic.

    Thanks!

Quick update, not much has changed in the locks department, but this girl looks like she's about to ovulate, if she hasn't already. She's already gone off feed.

I was expecting the Mojave girl to go first, but I certainly can't complain!

Oh yeah. He's a reliable breeder. Not sure what I'd do without him. Speaking of which:

The Mojave girl locked with him again few days ago, and now she's glowing.

It may be hard to tell because of the lighting, but the color change is really amazing. She's usually very dark, but now she looks like a Mojave Goldblush all of a sudden.

And I was right when I said this girl was about to ovulate:

She's definitely doing it now! So huge...

In other news, I think my Yellowbelly het Pied may actually be female. I put my Enchi Pied in the same cage with the Yellowbelly and this girl awhile back, and he locked with the Yellowbelly instead of her. At first I thought it might be a fluke, since there was a female in the cage. So I tried with just the two "males" and they locked again.

So either the Yellowbelly het Pied is female, or he's gay. Guess I won't know unless I get eggs. "He" probed male, but I've never seen hemipenes and he's never locked with a female. I've heard that in some cases people can damage a female's scent glands by probing too deep, and that can cause them to probe as male from then on. I bought this snake from a guy who was new to BPs and struggling with their husbandry, so I wonder if that's what happened.

Late update, but this girl had her pre-lay shed on the 23rd. The countdown to eggs begins!

The mojave is starting to look like she's about to ovulate, but I didn't get a picture of that. I think my green pastel girl may also go this year.
