    DIY enclosure vent placement
I’m building new enclosure for my ball pythons. Each enclosure is 4’ long by 24” deep by 20” high. I know that is taller than a lot of people go. Anyways, I’m trying to figure out where to put the vents for airflow and proper heat/humidity. I see some on the back, some on the sides, and I read somewhere that I should put the vent low on the hot side and high on the cool side. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I don’t want to make the holes until I know it is correct. If it matters, they have sliding front doors. Thanks in adVance for any help.

Putting them low on the hot side and higher on the cool side would make sense since heat rises, less heat will escape from the hot side with low vents, and heat will escape easier on the cool side with the vents higher. Most of the ones I have seen have the vents on the sides at equal height, but the offset ones would work also.

I must be wired up differently than you guys ..

Presuming you (us) want the warm side to be warmer and the cool side to be cooler .. so I presumed high vents on the warm side and low vents on the cooler side to allow the heat to escape easier. ...

I can see that, especially with belly heat. I should modify what I said, maybe best to have both sides equal, higher up in the enclosure? That way heat does not stay trapped? Mine are all equal height.

We need a scientist / physics bod to clarify :)

If you want to just play it normal, all pvc cage makers I've ever seen put the vents in the back at the mid~top. Depending on how big your vents are, there's usually three or four vents for a 4' long cage.

This looks as though the heat mat looks too large for my liking but the vents are high over the warm side ..

Thanks for the replies. It seems that it isn’t as important as I though it might be. I guess I’ll just go with where all the pro cage builders put them. I’m starting with less vents and going to do a trial run without the snakes in them and I’ll add more vents if needed. Thanks again.

I’m building mine with 2 vents at the top on either corner in the back, and the intakes will be low across the plexiglass
