Finally Brought Her Home!
I was at the reptile expo here in October and saw this little girl and just couldn’t say no and dropped a deposit on her and yesterday was her first full day in my care! She (probed by the store’s owner, I trust this guy fully when it comes to reptiles) is estimated to be a yearling Manokwari Green Tree Python! Unfortunately she is wild caught as with most Green Trees up here in western Canada but I’m really hoping that will change someday. From what I’ve been told she’s acclimated to captivity incredibly well! She has no issues being handled, is readily eating F/T mice and is healthy as far as we could tell but I’m still going to get her checked out by a vet once she’s settled.
I’ve got all her temps and humidity in the proper areas and my sole concern for now is her loose skin flaps, she was in a setup with a perch that was considerably larger than her and I’ve read that could be the cause, I also gave her a short soak when she got home in case she was dehydrated and I still haven’t seen her drink but aside from that she seems to be doing great but I’d love your guys’ input.

Gorgeous. As far as skin even though the colors are brite it may be close to shedding time.. this is how my lil guy gets and his skin looks great but he is growing so fats that he sheds anyways. I know a couple guys here that have Green Tree’s I’m sure they will chime in.

Okay cool! Thanks for the reassurance, if that’s the case these guys definitely don’t dull out as much when shedding compared to the rest of my snakes!

I think there were 20+ GTPs that came in with the shipment from Indonesia and 14 or so that went to this store, she was the one I had my eye on from the beginning! The shop owner kept 1.2 back that look weird, they’re on display at the store and they’re really awesome looking. I can’t wait to see how those ones grow, and my girl of course!

It actually looks like it may have a stuck shed, I'd give it a nice long soak to help get that shed off. Then keep really fresh water in a large water bowl to make sure the animal is hydrating properly. I would also advise collecting a fecal sample and having a vet test it for parasites as soon as it leaves one. It at least looks like it has been eating well. Hopefully it will stay healthy with proper care. I wish you luck with your new GTP.

I was thinking something along those lines but I wasn’t quite sure, I’ll be sure to give her a soak. She has a pretty big water dish, same size as what I use for my adult ball pythons so hopefully that will suffice and a fecal exam is definitely on the to do list!
