    Strange feeding tonight.
I had the weirdest feeding tonight. So i unthawed a rat. Blow dried to warm up and dry off. Went to feed and my ball python struck it no problem like always. Well it dropped it after it constricted even used the moving it a bit method like always. So i tried again same thing. Then it was picking it up and dropping it and also kept going from head to butt of the rat. I had to keep warming it up for it to take it. So this time i just held the rat infront of my ball untill it took the head and started eating. Never had this hapoen before so weird. I always watch to make sure it swallows its prey so theres not a rat sitting inside my enclosure lol. Anyone else had a feeding like this before?

Oh yes...when you feed lots of snakes over the years, you can almost write a book about the 50+ ways for snakes to take their prey...

So many different things to try...there are some snakes that don't strike but if you lightly rub the rat's nose under their chin, they'll open their mouth & eat it too.
(talk about lazy...haha!) Your BP is learning "manners" LOL!

I used to have a rat snake* that would carefully eat f/t (or fresh killed) that I held between my fingers...but, if I had it on the flat palm of my hand, she wouldn't
touch it, even though she wanted to eat. It actually appeared that she hesitated because in the middle of my hand, she got my scent as much or more than the
rodent, & she didn't want to make a mistake...she was too cute! (*that was a Trans Pecos, fyi)

Yup, sometimes they just goof up for who knows why.

Reminds me of the time my ball python decided to poop while trying to swallow his rat. I kept wondering why he'd start to swallow, spit the head out, drop, then try to eat, drop, rinse and repeat. He never did this before. I opened his cage to see what was going on and my nose was hit with the fresh scent of a BIG poop. It was NOT there when I first offered him his rat. I discovered he was SITTING on top of his poop, dropping his rat and getting poop all over it. It was as gross as it sounds. After I cleaned up the poop and offered him a fresh rat he just ate off the tongs lol
