Using Zoomed UTH tricks?

Hey. Sorry if this has been asked already. I can’t find the thread if so. I was wondering if there are any tricks to using zoomeds UTH without actually sticking it to the tank so it can be reused. I’m putting my baby bp into a tub system. I bought a new UTH but don’t want to have to constantly buy new ones whenever I put him into a bigger tub.

Is there a way to use with the white paper still on the glue or putting something over the glue? Any ideas?

I think someone mentioned sticking it to a piece of foil instead of the tank? I don't use ZooMed so I don't know if that violates their "cautions" or not, but I know
that Flexwatt tells you not to use it on metal (shelves etc) obviously since it has minimal insulation. Not sure it matters w/ ZooMed? If the thickness isn't an issue,
I'd use a thin (inexpensive leftover) ceramic tile (as used in bathrooms, kitchens)...no danger with ceramic whatsoever. Other things are ok too but have drawbacks
(glass...too fragile, etc). If ZooMed is ok on metal, a piece of sheet metal would be much sturdier than foil...& either one is highly conductive for heat. I often use
thin ceramic tiles under my tanks, under the UTH & as a "heat sink" that protects the wood cabinet that the tank is sitting on from the UTH heat, but tile is much
thicker, so if metal is safe, that's your best bet.

I would NOT use it with the paper on...heat builds up, & paper burns. You want something NOT flammable.

You get FOIL TAPE. It’s the metal tape used on Heating Ducts. (NOT DUCK TAPE). What Im talking about is Mirror shiny and made of foil. Like a sticky Tin Foil. Get it at Lowes/Home Depot etc..
Peal the paper backing off the UTH. Cover the sticky part of the UTH with the Foil tape. Then use more foil Tape around 3 sides of the UTH to fasten it to the bottom of the tank. When you want to change tanks you just peal the 3 sides of the tape off.

Do the foil tape trick like Calm said or you can also stick it to a piece of glass that is cut to fit the UTH.

Personally though, while i do like most of Zoo Med stuff, i hate their UTHs. I much prefer either Flexwatt or UltraTherm which is basically pre sized and wired flexwatt.

I actually had a Zoo Med UTH short out and melt on me. Luckily it didnt start a fire but it did put a black spot on the bottom of my dubia colony bin.

Yes, now that you mention it, I recall others having trouble with ZooMed UTH as well. I tried one a LONG time ago & didn't like it, but I didn't use it long enough
to have any safety problems with it. Ultratherm has a much better reputation.

I'm glad CALM mentioned the foil tape....I wasn't even thinking about that, but that's a good option too. I actually have a roll of it (for other purposes).
