I plan on building a bioactive vivarium in a plywood enclosure. is there any way I can heat an enclosure like this without using a heat lamp? I've seen a heating cable by BigApplePetSupply and apparently, their heating cable is waterproof and can be put inside the substrate. can I trust this? and if not what are other ways to heat the enclosure properly?

Ive never used the heat cables. But have never heard good things either.

You could look into a Radiant Heat Panel (RHP).

I've always used radiant heat panels in my wooden vivs. I wouldn't recommend the heat cable. Depending on what you're doing for substrate, you could cut squares out of the floor and route around it so you can recess glass panels in if you want to supply belly heat....just be sure to seal everything up really well.
