    virtual desktops -computer stuffs
Just thought I'd throw a link out to a free virtual desktop program that I am finally happy with! :headbang: I got hooked on virtual desktops first using it in windows by running MSVDM...which worked...most of the time but crashed alot and wouldn't allow me to set seperate desktop backgrounds without crashing which was annoying.

    Virtual Dimension

I've only been using it about two days and I'm already MUCH happier with it. Got different wallpapers set on each of my 4 desktops got my usual apps running on each respective desktop and all is running smooth. There are some cool interface features such as being able to see what is running on each desktop and you can make any program window transparent, etc. I personally use it in a pretty plain jane manor. Only change the desktop backgrounds and operate them soley with hot keys.

Another even smaller/lighter prog I found but does NOT allow for different backgrounds is here: Secretly This was created for other purposes but can be used as a virtual desktop application...I used this for a bit also without any issues...this has ZERO graphical interface and functions solely on the use of hot keys.

Just some "geeky" stuff as some of you might say but a must have for me and my "day" job in IT :P Its nice to be able to have email full screen on one desktop, firefox on another...easy to quickly hide bp.net to another desktop that looks work related ;) etc...

Woohooo! Another firefox user. I'm so glad I dumped Internet explorer :D Thats a pretty cool program that you found, though I don't think it will help me all that much. I don't have that many programs open at the same time. :P

    firefox rules!

I like having the multiple desktops for less clutter on one display.

desk1 - usually free for anything quick I need to such as using word, or file management, burning cd's, etc

desk2 - dedicated to trillian (multiple IM program) and any open chats I have going

desk3 - dedicated to firefox! anything I need to look up on the net..or for those "short breaks" checking out my frequented reptile websites

    desk4 - dedicated to email

It just bugs me now not to have virtual desktops...windows should have something built in with this feature! (longhorn?)

Not sure about Longhorn. I was running the 64bit XP for a while but it just had too many issues with compatabilty. Hopefully longhorn will be better supported. I was gonna go with Gentoo or FreeBSD on my current system but the chipset apparently does not support these operating systems
