Thermostat/basking bulb question.
I was thinking of putting a thermostat on my 100w basking bulb. Heres the question. Can i use a thermostat on this?. Or does it have to be a che?. Also is the wattage u put on a thermostat is it the bulb u calculate? or the dome?. Or the dome and bulb?.

Yes, you can use a basking bulb on a thermostat, but you’d want a dimming thermostat like a herpstat, otherwise the light will be turning on/off. Not sure what your question is with the wattage.

The thermostats have a wattage that they can control up to for example 300w thermostat. My question was what do i base it off? The bulb wattage the dome or both?. Sorry i didnt word that right the first time

Thanks. Thats what i thought, i just wanted to be 100% sure.

Re: Thermostat/basking bulb question.
Isn't there a time when you need a special bulb fitting for high powered ceramics ? ( 200w and 250w)

When I was using CHE’s, I purchased domes intended for brooding chicks or reptile basking domes. All of them came with ceramic sockets (a must with constant heat) and clearly marked what their rating was for bulbs (ie 100 watt, 200 watt, etc.).
