    My Snake Photography Thread
    Hi, it's me again.

I thought that since I received some nice compliments regarding the photos of my WLP, I would start a thread with some of my photos. Is this something you would be interested in? Or would it just clutter the forums with yet another sharing thread?

Either way, I just wanted to share some of my snake photos with the group here.

So if there's interest, I can certainly keep this thread updated. I'm, by no means, a professional. Much of this stuff is of my collection or zoos, but I can always offer my input for any photography-related questions. I should also add that I do not have a venomous snake permit, so anything venomous is not mine.

Thank you for stopping by and looking!

Wow, those are awsome. That first photo really is amazing, the rainbow iridescent really shows up nice. Good eye for great photos. It’s almost like these guys are posing for the camera. My snakes are camera shy.

Great photos! You're a pro in my opinion :). Definitely keep the pics coming. What camera are you shooting with and how do you get them to stay still? I'd love to get better pics of my critters. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you very much! It's not always easy. The white-lipped python struck at me a couple times while trying to take photos, so I do have to stay on guard.

Thank you so much! Most of these photos are with a Canon 6D and a Canon 100mm Macro lens (the Non-L) version.

Thank you so much Zig. That means so much to me! Canon 6D and a Canon 100mm Macro is my go-to. Getting them to sit still is sort of a working art. I try to anticipate where they are going to be moving. Often times, if I'm holding them, I'll use a lens like my Canon 35mm 1.4. This way I have something wide enough to get a little more scene in the image. I find that when I lay snakes down on branches, they sort of get a bit more on guard. This is probably due to you being the tree, or you are being a giant potential predator staring at them. This helps with getting them to sit still as they are more focused on you, instead of looking 'from a tree', trying to figure out how the hell they got up there.

I just bought a couple branches, and sanitize between uses and snakes and use that to perch them up nicely. Try well lit rooms with cooler lights instead of that warm yellow light. Flash from cameras is often notorious for making lighting very harsh, so if you're very much into photography, consider a flash and a modifier (basically something to soften the light - simple as white pillowcase or complex as a soft box). Otherwise, try to utilize window light. You could even use a giant white sheet of posterboard to reflect light back at the subject (ideally you'd use a reflector which is basically those sunscreens you find in car windshields) Such as this crude diagram:

    [window] {snake} |whiteboard|

    ^^^^^(CAMERA)^^^^^^

Hope some of that word vomit made sense!

Wow. Stunning. I'd post some of my pics but they'd looks like stick drawings next to Monet by comparison. That WLP is total eye candy.
