First BP scare!

So I was feeding regina today and let her be after seeing her start to swallow the prey item after constricting the already dead rat pup. Shortly after I looked over from my PC and she scared the living crap outta me, writhing around like worm on morning pavement, she managed to get a piece of repti-bark lodged into her jaw(stuck on her teeth) -_- I had to dislodge the bark which was terrifying for me because I had to hold her behind the head(The way I saw my vet do to examine her mouth) So that I could dislodge it without hurting her teeth.

How dare she scare her dad like so. :( Though she seems fine now ate the rat pup as soon as the piece of the substrate was dislodged.

I am also very happy with my cold-blooded cafe shipment! going to make a new post(In the feed section) with pictures of product I received.

Ha ha ha, just like kids...our snakes just have to keep it "interesting" don't they? (good job, good snarent!)

As long as this is not an ongoing occasion if this happens again I might end up switching up the substrate while a very engaging experience. Not one I want to repeat.

Or just feed on a "plate" of some kind if you can. (whatever works, paper plate or cookie sheet or tray of any kind)

oh, that would work, My house is the paper plate on any day but holidays type anyway.

I just put pieces of card down over the substrate and feed over that ...
Those little pieces you get in boxes of chocolates and biscuits are perfect

I used to do this too...but I find they drag they prey off of it more often than not. But by all means do it if it works for you.

I've had to remove a piece of substrate ONE time in hundreds upon hundreds of feedings.

I set down some paper towel in the tank

I was feeding my first BP live prey years ago and when he struck at the mouse, he missed and got his mouth lodged open with a large piece of ReptiBark. He couldn't get it out and I had to remove it with him fightning me the whole time.

I swore I'd never use ReptiBark again but its decent stuff and hold humidity well. I feed frozen/thawed now and it's not an issue.

What others have said, I lay down paper towel and gently place my bps on it. It also helps to absorb any "juices" they squeeze out while constricting. I'm always super nervous about them ingesting substrate and I used to feed them in an outside tub, but I learned that wasn't best and was only stressing out the shyer one. This is a happy middle ground.
