!Taco, Taco, Taco!!
have you noticed that today - October 4, 2018 - is a Thursday? yet today October 4th, a Thursday is National Taco Day?!! huh, your mind might be blown right now that it's not on a Tuesday huh. Lol mine was.
(also FYI - Taco Day in Mexico is actually March 31st! : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taco_Day)
the history of Taco Tuesday: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taco_Tuesday
Quote:
Taco Tuesday is a custom in many US cities of going out to eat tacos or in some cases select Mexican dishes typically served in a tortilla on Tuesday nights. Restaurants will often offer special prices, for example, "$1 fish tacos every Tuesday night". It is popular in many big cities across the nation and especially popular in the beach cities of Southern California. Taco Tuesday is similar to Happy Hour in that restaurants vary in their participation, hours, and specials offered.
Legally, "Taco Tuesday" is a trademark of Taco John’s and other restaurants are prohibited from using that term.
i had to follow a link in it's bibliography to another source for more details: https://www.quora.com/Where-and-when...ted_qid=416062
Quote:
According to The Strange History Of Taco Tuesday, the restaurant promotion was started in 1982 by Taco John's, and trademarked (with subsequent bad press) in 1989. The trademark is apparently no longer enforced.
According to Taco USA, the term was trademarked by Potato Olés, but even here, it's recognized as being in widespread use already.
The same book also recognizes the claim of El Torito restauranteur Cano as one of his innovations, which would place the origin somewhere between 1959 and 1977.
i still cannot get over this. i find it very interesting that Taco Day is not a fixed Tuesday.
anyways while you're here, what's your favorite taco shell?
:)

Well, if I want to be somewhat healthy I go with corn.
But it when I throw caution to the wind, it’s flour all the way, or a hard shell.
And for breakfast tacos, it’s just gotta be a a soft flour!
Thus, it’s all up to my mood.
Tacos, the everyday food!

I love crispy corn tortilla tacos, but also love flour tortillas lightly-browned on my (dry) cast-iron grill & quickly filled & folded...they are somewhere between
crisp & soft...to die for!

Re: !Taco, Taco, Taco!!
Lightly toasted corn tortillas all the way. My standard is chorizo with avocado, pickled jalapeños and red onions, cotija, salsa of choice, and plenty of cilantro. I like flour tortillas as well but going low carb on my entree helps me justify the number of barley sodas I pair the tacos with. [emoji482][emoji895]

"Tostadas" are usually my go-to, and instead of a shaped tortilla "bowl" (which crunches down anyway) I just use my unsalted Xochil (brand) "Totopos de Maiz"
corn chips. They are light & crispy- perfect for this. (they make salted ones too, of course, this is just my pref. as my salsa has plenty of salt) So whether you
call this a tostada or taco salad, I'm with you!
