This is how this ding bat is 98% of the time. We’ve had him for about 3 weeks now. At first he used both hides, but now he just lays in that spot. Is it normal for them not to hide?

He’s about 2 years old, from what I was told. When I picked him up, he had a half log hide that only half of him fit under. No overhead heating and a UTH that was barely attached and not even plugged in. He was SOOO cold when I picked him up.

Is it possible that he’s accustomed himself to being out in the open and to cooler temps?

He doesn’t seem stressed. He eats like a champ. Just took a huge poop. He’s the chillest snake I’ve ever met, as far as handling. He just hangs out on you. He lets his head be stroked. I’m at loss 🤷🏻:cens0r:♀️

He has a UTH under the hot hide, controlled by a thermostat. Temp gun on glass reads 87-90 depending where I aim it. Cool side is 82-84. CHE is controlled with a dimmerhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...cdfeedc48c.jpg

He most likely doesn’t like the hides.
Try something completely enclosed with a small entrance.

Also, I have one old rescue beep I recently adopted that was kept out in the open in a glass tank her whole life. Now that I have her, She only uses her hides when sleeping. Other than that she is always out in the open, and she is completely unafraid of people or of hanging out exposed. She’s just adapted to that lifestyle/environment.

They are completely enclosed except for the hole on top to get in. I’ll try switching it up though and see what happens.

Yeah, the hole being “on top” might be the problem. Predators in the wild generally always come from above. Most good python hides have a hole on the side.

I would think since he’s perfectly content being sprawled out all willy nilly 24/7, he wouldn’t care. Haha! But I’ll change it up and see what happens. :)

Yes, quite possible. Just like my recent rescue, she’s completely unafraid of being exposed. She probably wouldn’t last more than a week in the wild before being eaten. [emoji23]

The RBI hides are the best. Dont try a cheap replica. I had a Male that stayed out like that years ago. Gave him 2 RBI hides and if you wanted to see him it had to be after 8pm when be came out. Who new something so simple would straiten him out. He would also put himself at risk not keeping warm so I dont trust a BP’s judgment so i make sure no matter where they are in the enclosure its at least 80 .. all my other snakes go back and forth to regulate, but there can always be a flunky hahaha.

I switched him to some different hides I had laying around and he’s been hiding ever since. :)
