'Hunger' behavior related to new kitten?
We got a kitten recently, and he's been all around my bp's tub(which has air holes poked throughout). BP doesn't mind at all, he just chills there. Today I fed him, and every single time after he's eaten in the past, he goes and hides for a day or two after. But this time, he's active and tracking along the tub, tongue flicking the whole time.

My question- do you guys think this is from the kitten's smell? Is he thinking, "mmm, I smell a tasty treat"? Or coincidence? He should be full- he's eating small 'small rats'(so small rats, but on the lower end of small). We don't weigh him, but if he continues acting weird after feeding we'll be picking up a scale to make sure he's getting enough.

Another note- when I fed him today, for the first time in a long time he TOTALLY missed on the rat and nearly got my hand(and I was holding the rat by the tail with long tweezers). Maybe related, maybe not?

Of course the two will NEVER meet and I scrub my hands to make sure they don't share any bacteria and such.

Many snakes stay in "feed mode" for a while even after eating...and while I doubt that your snake finds the kitten's scent to be attractive (in an edible sort of
way), it's quite possible that your snake is paying attention to the motion AND the kitten's warmth...remember that BPs have heat-sensing pits to find food.
And maybe he's curious about the scent too, who knows? If I was stuck in a room, I'd be looking out the window too...wouldn't you?

I think it's a motion thing as well. One of my girls follows my Great Dane when he come close to her enclosure in the evening.

Sure thing...when my snakes are hungry, they follow MY motion as well. They don't register visually what they're looking at, they're just attracted to the motion.
They also notice slight vibrations too...my most alert snake is my little Australian spotted python, who ALWAYS pokes her head up to see who or what is approaching
her cage whenever anyone walks nearby.

You say you don't weight him. Well what is the prey size compared to the widest part of his body. Much smaller? Equal? Larger? Depending on that answer he might be in search of another.

Just a little bit wider than the thickest part of him!

Thank you everyone for the answers! I appreciate it. It must be a coincidence or just a motion thing. Though I have no doubt this garbage disposal would eat literally anything I offered him :D

What's his name? "Insinkerator"? (or "Badger" if you want to be more subtle...:D)
