So I’ve had my 3 m/o ball python for about 2 months and his first shed with me was very bad. I made a post about this issue previously, but it has now been about 4 weeks since his shed cycle began and he still has retained shed on the entirety of his head, including the eye caps. I moved him from a glass tank to a tub set up 2 weeks ago. Hot spot is 88-90, cool side sits at 78. Ambient is around 80. Humidity never falls below 50 and is almost always above 60. I keep him on eco earth with sphagnum moss in his hides. I’ve soaked him more times than I can count since the shed began (while he was in his tank with very poor humidity). In the beginning he was incredibly wrinkled and looked very dehydrated (probably due to lack of humidity) and it took multiple soaks to remove the majority of the shed. To remove the remaining skin I’ve tried a humidity box, long soaks in a covered container with a washcloth, I’ve read lots of useful advice in many threads, but nothing has worked and I am tired of stressing this dude out. He eats very well every 5 days, and seems to be a healthy snake. What risk am I taking by leaving the retained shed alone until his next shed cycle? Will he be able to start another shed in this condition?
