Monty Python
https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...om/2q0nfjs.jpg <-- this is monty

^ this is the condition of tank he was living in before I rehomed him from kijiji
The guy wasnt keeping track of temperature or humidity. He was using a gross old massive margarine container that didnt look like it had been washed like ever as a water bowl. The heat lamp wasn't on a thermostat nor was the heat pad that by the way takes over almost half the tank..
he told me that he had been feeding monty 1 med rat every two weeks. but he looks a little over weight to me he has snake cleavage near his spine and rolls in the corners when he bends so i might bring him down to a small rat or make feeding times be every three weeks. he told me that monty one went on a hunger strike for 8 months.. ive heard of 6 month, 8 seemed a little excessive.
I got monty and two tanks and everything in the pictures for 200$ apparently he had a 10 year old corn snake that one day decided to bit itself to death and he came back from work and found it like that... happy happy joy joy. :sarcasm:
He also told me that had I not called he was going to set monty loose by the river in my town
I was super excited and redid his tank and he really seemed to like it.

sadly I have him in a separate tank right now just to be sure that he doesnt have mites
The corn snake dying and monty going into an extreme food strike seemed like red flags.
Also im not sure if this is part of his pattern or not but rather safe then sorry

Monty is his original name and it made me laugh so im gonna keep it
He will be 8 in November.
I'm pretty sure he is a Cinnamon Ball python. He doesnt mind being handled and is a pretty chill dude.

My favorite thing about him is he has a 8=8 marking on his one side.
This is my first snake ever. I've done a lot of research and I am always open to learning more.
am I right about his morph?
-
Congrats on your first snake, he's very nice-looking, & apparently very lucky that you came along when you did. I've taken in a near-dead bearded dragon
many years ago under similar circumstances, the idiot owner said he'd set him loose in the desert if I didn't take him (apart from being an illegal thing to do,
and terribly unethical, that's just what struggling local wildlife needs is exposure to who-knows-what-exotic germs?) so of course I then proceeded to save a
bearded dragon, even though snakes are actually where most of my experience is (& was then too).
That's awful about that guys corn snake...it sounds like he had internal pain that made him bite at himself...possibly from internal parasites (worms) so do get
a fecal done on this snake, even though his good body weight suggests that he has no such issue going on right now.
I'll have to leave the "what morph is it?" guesses to others here as that's not my "area", but just wanted to welcome you...& commend you for helping this
sweet ball python escape a bad owner. :gj:

good job on the rescue/pickup and welcome to BP.net! i thought Canadians were better but i guess your Kajiji peeps are just like our Craigslist peeps. J/k.
anyways u don't have a Cinnamon. it looks like u have a Pastave combo (Pastel Mojave). i don't see any obvious mites in the closeup pix but they can be hard to tell. i would wipe him down w/ a damp white paper towel and if any little bugs, squished bugs or black specks come off, he has mites. are u keeping him in a separate tank b/c u have other reptiles? (A good thing, it's called quarantine.) or b/c u don't want mites in his new decorated enclosure until u can confirm he has no mites? Also u should remove that white plastic wall w/ the football shaped cutouts as Monty can get his head stuck in there.
ok make sure u have good temps, humidity and hides and good luck, happy snake keeping. :)

I wiped him down and got no black specks. But have quarantined him from his normal tank and started treatment. I have noticed black specks on the paper towel when I change it every day. The football shaped cutout plastic bin is outside of his tank on a table beside him. he can't access it. Are you sure he is a Pastave cause he has a lot of #8/infinity symbols in his pattern also from above he look very brown. Thanks again for your help

^ yes, i'm pretty sure u have a Pastave. i have one myself and i'm familiar w/ the morphs that make one. u can find the # 8 or infinity symbol in alotta morphs. overall the pattern, colors and blushing of your snake is that of a big ol' Pastave. if u want, repost his pix after he sheds in the morph ID thread: https://ball-pythons.net/forums/foru...-Morph-Is-This
Edit: i'm also familiar w/ and keep Black Pastel/Cinny.

Re: Monty Python
Thanks for helping this dude! I thought pastel when I saw the first pictures but he very well could be a Mojave Pastel, I'm still a newb myself :D Whatever morph he is Monty's lucky to have you.
Top Pic is a Cinnamon and the other is a Pastave (Pastel Mojave) for reference.
