Im Gonna Snap : Just cracked 1 of my PVC enclosures.

Well I carried my Boaphile upstairs by myself, it started to slip so i brought it down easy, however it was onto the corner where they put the cord hole for the light and it cracked it right to the door opening. Im so disgusted right now. I was going to sell it to get a 8’ AP to mach my stacks. I will say Im never buying a Boaphile again. I basically just set it down a little hard and it cracked like glass. I also think the hole they drilled for the light being 2mm from the front edge didnt help, thats where it originated. Any suggestions? I see all kinds of PVC/Plastic repair at lowes but I’m sure its all toxic. So Pissed.

How old is the Boaphile? Many plastics understandably do dry out after years of heating...

UV can also weaken PVC over time.

Since the break is at a corner which can get a lot of stress I'd look at using PVC glue to bond small pieces of thin PVC on the inside and outside of the enclosure over the cracked area to patch it, instead of just sealing the crack itself. I think it would make for a stronger repair.

The key to solvent welding PVC together is PRIMER. The glue alone will not work. Use a lot of primer, make sure the crack is completely saturated in it, and then immediately apply the glue. it is only toxic temporarily while it is wet and evaporating chemicals into the air. As soon as it cures it is no longer toxic.

The primer liquifies the pvc temporarily, and the glue is liquified already, they then harder up solid, and the liquid molecules chemically bind together, which is why it is called "solent welding" and it is not really "glue" which is a laminate bond. Without the primer, the materials will not weld together.

After letting the glue cure for 24 hours (which is way overkill) you could apply epoxy to reinforce the weld, as it sounds like the pvc is quite thin.

This should work well, of course it will harder to sell with an obvious plastic weld repair in the corner!:tears:

Look into devcon as well. Should do the trick and may be cheaper.

The enclosure is 3 years old. It ia/was heated with the Heat Tape from Boaphile. They installed the Tape and the light. You cant see in the picture but if you know Boaphile there is a Metal 2” wide x 1/2” x 4’ piece of metal that runs across the Front Top above the doors.. if that wasn’t there, there wouldn’t be anything left. I’ll just use it for a couple years instead of selling it. Maybe someone will need the Base at least because I stacked this above my AP’s.
The crack isn’t effecting the use of the enclosure considering the inside brace. Im thankful for that.
