Re: Ball Python Tank Sizes
1. I think a 5 gallon is do able for a just hatched neonate but it probably won't last long before you switch to a 10 gallon. When I first got my killer bee girl she was pretty small and she did fine in a 10 gallon with hides and fake plants and all that stuff.
2. Adult males? a 20 gallon long should be good enough for a males entire life. Now if this is a monster eater and is breaking records or something maybe a 40 gallon breeder if you want to and you got the space.
3. Adult female id work through a 20 gallon long and maybe up to a 40 gallon breeder. The 40 gallon might only be needed if she's getting really big.
Before racks I used tanks so these recommendations are based on some experience.
Re: Ball Python Tank Sizes
I’ve used tanks in the past as well as tubs for juvenile snakes and adults. Currently all of my balls are in 32”x30”x12” plastic cages with plexi doors (full cage is 8’x30”x12” divided into 3 sections). The hatchlings have extra hides and have done well in the larger enclosures, everyone feeding and plenty of temperature ranges to find that comfy spot. The adults have enough room to move around to different temperaure zones as well, and aren’t crowded. My largest ball is my adult normal at close to 4’, second is my 3 year old dragonfly at about 3’.
Re: Ball Python Tank Sizes
Personally I think a 20 gal is way to small for an adult. I’d say 40 gal minimum.
